Expand beyond library collections

What is 'Expand beyond library collections'? Tick the box or not?

Searches in MultiSearch return results for electronic materials that have been checked against our electronic subscriptions to confirm we have full-text access to the resource. These results are clearly identified with the status ‘Full-text available’.

If the initial search did not return satisfying results, tick the box  ‘Expand beyond library collections’.

More results will be displayed, however, we might not have full-text electronic access to them and resources that do not have full-text electronic access will be identified with the status ‘Check for full-text’.

Depending on the resource type you will either see a tab labelled ‘Get It’ or ‘Hold/ARC Request’.

At this point, two outcomes are possible:

  • If the resource is available in print format, the tab will display the physical location of the item.
  • If no version is available, you will be prompted to contact the library to look for alternative access options, such as document supply services.
