What is Browse?

In a title, author, or subject browse, you browse an alphabetical list, starting with the first word you type in. You need to know exactly what you're looking for and you go to that particular entry on a list.

First, select "Browse" from the Multisearch top menu

To browse by a person's name you need to enter the terms in a specific format: Last name First name (e.g. Dickens Charles)

Enter the subject terms you wish to browse by - simpler is better as you can browse the alphabetical list to find other relevant terms.

Next enter the subject terms you wish to browse by - simpler is better as you can browse the alphabetical list to find other relevant terms.

Enter the call number you wish to browse for. A search for QC801.A86 will return the exact item, whereas a search for QC801 will return similar items.

Here you can browse for material by searching for its call number. At Macquarie we use the Library of Congress classification system. Here is an example of a call number of an item in the detailed record:

 

The first step is to select Call number from the Browse by drop-down menu. Next enter the call number you wish to browse for. A search for QC801.A86 will return the exact item, whereas a search for QC801 will return similar items.
