Navigating the Library

Some of these terms will get you started in MultiSearch.

Specific search terms

English literature, 20th century, history and criticism; Modernism (literature); Postmodernism (literature); Critical theory; Fiction -- 21st Century -- History And Criticism;

Useful general terms

Debate; Analysis; Discourse; Criticism and interpretation; Philosophy; Reflection; Literary theory; Writers

Try combining a specific term with a useful general term. For instance:

postmodernism AND "literary theory"

Using the AND in capitals connects the terms and refines the search. Using inverted comma's is useful for phrase searching.

Call numbers (these are all located on level 1).

Books can be located on the shelf using their call numbers. Books on similar topics are shelved together, so it can be helpful to look nearby to find other books on your topic.

But remember not all books are in print and on the shelf. Use MultiSearch first to find ebooks, print books and books from the ARC as well.
