You can use Bibliographic referencing software to maintain your references. This software can also create bibliographies automatically in Word.
Macquarie University has a licence for two bibliographic management software packages EndNote and Mendeley:

There are hundreds of different citation styles. They vary according to subject discipline, layout and punctuation. Your academic convenor will advise you which style you need to use and they usually include it in your unit outline.
The following example gives you an idea about the different citation styles. It cites the same book, using some of the major citation styles. Note that universities can use these styles with some differences.
