Interlibrary Loans

How to request items not held by the Library

Frequently asked questions

How long will my request take?

  • Receipt of physical loans varies depending on availability and how far the book needs to travel. However, the more information included when requesting, particularly an ISBN or ISSN can result in faster delivery.
  • Journal articles and book chapters that can be supplied from an existing digital archive or database, are typically available within 24 business hours. Copies that need to be scanned from print will take longer to process.
  • When submitting your request through MultiSearch, you will be given an estimated time frame for delivery. If your digital copy request states "Terms to be supplied", this indicates that the material isn't available from any libraries within our rapid network. These requests will take longer as we will need to locate a possible supplier.

How long can I keep a book for?

  • Loan periods vary according to the lending institution. Your due date will be provided in your digital receipt by email upon checkout. You can check your loans at any time by logging into MyLibrary.

Can I renew my loan?

  • If you wish to renew an interlibrary loan submit an enquiry at least three working days before the item is due. We will contact the lending institution to request a renewal. Note: some lending institutions do not permit renewals of their items.
  • If we are unable to renew an item and you still require material from a resource, please feel free to place a new request and we will attempt to source it from another library.
  • To request a renewal please contact us

How do I return my book?

  • All loans must be returned to Waranara Library.
  • Please return all books with the Macquarie strap attached to the book and leave any paperwork inside the book.

How long will the PDF of my article be accessible once received?

  • Once you receive your article it will remain accessible in the email for a period of one month.
  • Please be aware that PDFs may only be downloaded a maximum of 5 times, so please download and save as soon as possible.

How many items can I request?

  • While there is no actual limit to the number of requests that may be made, large numbers of requests by a requester will be staggered so as to manage the workload across all requests.

How much do interlibrary loans cost?

  • The library does not pass on the cost of loans of books or for the sourcing of articles.
  • The maximum purchase limit that we will pay is $65.00 AUD.
  • The full cost of items that exceed the above limit will need to be borne by the requester in entirety with requests made directly to the supplier by the staff/student.
