How to request items not held by the Library

Requesting interlibrary loans

Macquarie University and Hospital staff and postgraduate students (including honours students in their honours year) are eligible to request Interlibrary Loans. Items not held by the Library can be requested directly through MultiSearch.

1. Search our collections

  • Search to see if the Library already holds the required item.

2. Expand beyond collections

  • If it is not held by Waranara, use the ‘Expand beyond library collections’ link, and check the expanded results. Expand beyond library collections link
  • When you have found what you are looking for, click the link ‘Request it for me’ to see request options.

3. Request it

  • Use the ‘Request it ’ options to request your interlibrary loan.
  • For book chapter requests, a limit of a single chapter or 10% total pages applies per book. You must include chapter details or page range for chapter requests. Due to copyright restrictions, the full text of a book cannot be supplied as a digital copy.

4. Receiving your requests

  • You will receive an email when the requested item is available.
  • Physical items can be collected from the collection point on level 2 of the Library.
  • Chapters and articles will be sent as an email attachment or download link.
  • You can check your in-progress request at any time in My Requests, accessed via the dropdown menu in the top right corner of MultiSearch.

  • You will be able to view any active or recently supplied requests here, and check their current status and estimated delivery (if available).

  • You will also be able to access the download link for a digital request for up to 30 days once it is delivered.

Items not found

  • If you are unable to locate the material you need, click the link 'Didn't find what you need?' to access a request form.

Note: Items that cannot be located within 'Expand beyond collections' are more likely to be difficult to obtain or unavailable.

Requests submitted through the manual form will require manual processing, searching and retrieval, and will take longer to be delivered if available.

Wherever possible, submit requests using the rapid 'Request it' options, to receive your material quickly. Requests placed through 'Request it' are prioritised over requests from the form.
