This service can supply, subject to availability, published material not held by Waranara library. This includes:
We can borrow print books from other libraries within our network, in Australia and internationally.
Recently published books and textbooks are rarely available for interlibrary loan.
Old, rare or fragile items may be unavailable. Many libraries who agree to lend rare or antique books will do so with the condition that the item is used only within our library under staff supervision.
Loan periods and renewal policies vary according to the lending institution.
If you wish to renew an interlibrary loan, you can request a renewal within one week before the item is due. If self renewal within MyLibrary is not available, contact us at least three working days before the item is due. Some lending libraries do not allow for renewals of their items.
All loans must be returned to Waranara Library before their due date. Late charges or replacement fees may apply.
For digital requests, under the provisions of the Copyright Act 1968, we are limited to sending only one chapter or up to 10% of a book's total pages. Copies from books that are within copyright and in print cannot exceed this limit. We are unable to supply the full text of a book as a digital copy.
Requests that do not comply with copyright will be cancelled, so please be sure to include chapter details or page range for any digital requests for books within copyright.
A limit of one article per journal issue applies.
As copyright holders, publishers are entitled to set further limitations to the dissemination of their content. These licenses can further limit or entirely prohibit the sharing of articles between libraries.
Please be aware that we may have have difficulty supplying journal articles that are less than 12 months old due to publisher restrictions. Often recently published material from peer reviewed journals have a 1 year embargo that blocks the requesting and dissemination of material to other libraries that do not have a paid subscription.
Sometimes due to licencing, articles can only be provided to us in paper form. In these instances you will be notified by the library that the article has arrived and may be picked up from the service desk on Level 2 of the library. Articles will be held here for one month before removal.
We can source news articles from print newspapers and in many cases from digital news sources.
Some "born digital" content (i.e. subscriber-only articles published only online) may be unavailable.
You can access many paywalled news articles using our subscribed databases, including Factiva.
We can source copies of conference papers which have been published in the conference's selected proceedings.
Many conference proceedings are now made open access online. Remember to search the open web for the paper's title, and for the website of the conference event or the sponsoring association.
Note you may find citations for conference presentations which have not been published. We are unable to obtain unpublished papers, or assorted conference materials such as presentation posters.
We can request theses from other institutions.
The majority or theses are considered unpublished material, which typically allows the entire content to be digitised and shared for individual research. However, this can vary depending on many factors.
Theses may be embargoed (temporarily or permanently restricted access) for many reasons.
If the thesis has or will be subsequently published, access to the original text may be restricted.
A thesis may contain confidential or personally identifiable information, or portions of material belonging to another copyright holder. Sometimes the thesis can be shared with these portions redacted.
Copyright law in some countries do not distinguish between published and unpublished manuscripts, and more restrictive limits will apply.
Many institutions have made theses and dissertations freely available on their digital repositories or open access databases. Be sure to check our Thesis Finding guide for recommended databases, and search Google/the open web for free content.
Certain types of specialised or subject-specific resources will be unobtainable by the Interlibrary Loan Service. For information on how to access these, please ensure you have consulted the relevant Subject and Research Guides for your area of study.
Psychological testing instruments and accompanying manuals are typically only available to qualified psychologists, or students of psychology. We are unable to obtain them through interlibrary loan.
Company and industry reports are available from licensed databases, we are unable to obtain reports on demand.
