Interlibrary Loans

How to request items not held by the Library

About the service

The Interlibrary Loan (ILL) Service supports the research and teaching needs of Macquarie University’s eligible staff and students.

We do this by liaising with other libraries outside of Macquarie University to borrow and provide known published items, and theses, both physical and electronic that are not held by Macquarie University Library.

We are bound by domestic and international copyright legislation, licencing agreements and the conditions set by the library that owns the item. This means not all items found by a requestor can be supplied by us.

To get the best from this service please:

  • provide accurate information about the requested item including title, author, publication date and where possible ISBN or ISSN.
  • check that the item is not held in the Macquarie University collection or available via Open Access before requesting. If it is, we will advise you where to find it but will not provide a copy via this service.
  • supply exact spelling and wording for any items that are not in English, to help our searchers find the item more quickly.
  • If we are unable to facilitate access to the item, we will advise you and where possible offer alternative access options.

Who is eligible

Macquarie University and Macquarie University Hospital staff and postgraduate students (including honours students in honours year) are eligible to request interlibrary loans.

Items supplied that are not held by the Library must be for teaching and/or research purposes.
