MultiSearch FAQs
What is MultiSearch?
MultiSearch is a search and discovery tool that provides one-stop searching across the Library's resources, including items in:
- the Library Catalogue
- e-Reserve
- Macquarie University ResearchOnline
- plus many Library databases and online journal collections.
MultiSearch is designed for:
- a wide sweep and quick retrieval of relevant items across print and online and across local and subscribed resources
- quick connection to online resources
- facilitating the 'drilling down' or 'post-filtering' of search results.

MultiSearch or Google?
MultiSearch can search material in Macquarie University's local resources and subscribed online databases that is 'invisible' to Google and GoogleScholar and therefore would not show up in Google's search results.
Unlike Google, MultiSearch is designed to specifically search across information resources selected by academic staff to support Macquarie's teaching and research.
MultiSearch or Specialist Database?
MultiSearch is a discovery tool designed to provide a fast and simple way to begin researching a topic.
MultiSearch is not a replacement for specialised print and electronic finding tools which offer more sophisticated searching options and a targeted subject scope. Use the Library's Databases gateway page to identify and access individual databases.
Not all research databases are included in MultiSearch. Current participating databases and publishers include: JSTOR, Emerald, Oxford, Cambridge, Project Muse, University of Chicago, APA, Wiley, plus open source journal databases such as DOAJ. Additional publishers and database vendors are in discussions about the inclusion of their content in MultiSearch.
