EndNote 20 for Mac

Instructions for downloading and installing EndNote 20

Before installation, if you already have an existing version of EndNote installed on your PC you MUST:

  • Save a copy of your existing library.
  • Uninstall any previous versions of EndNote on your PC.
  • Reboot your PC after uninstalling the previous versions.

2. Log in with your OneID username and password.

3. A file endnote_20_mac.dmg will appear at the bottom left corner.

4. Click on the download file and the EndNote 20 Installer image will appear.

5. Double-click on the Install EndNote 20 image.

6. This will bring up an image with Licensed to and our license name Macquarie University. Click Install.

7. This will launch the EndNote 20 application. Click through the screens to finish the installation process.

Macintosh compatibility and system requirements

EndNote 20 is compatible with macOS 10.14 (Mojave), 10.15 (Catalina), 11 (Big Sur), 12 (Monterey), 13 (Ventura) and 14 (Sonoma).

Cite While You Write feature is compatible with Microsoft Word 2016, 2019, Office 365 (locally installed desktop version only).

Browser support for Web Application is Chrome 31 or later, Safari 5.0 or later, Firefox 27 or later.

An Internet connection is required to register for online access, search online databases, find full text and automatically update references.

Installing Microsoft Office 365

It is important that you have Microsoft Word installed on your device prior to installing the program.

As a student of Macquarie you have access to a free version of Microsoft Office which you can access here:

Uninstall EndNote

If you have a previous version of EndNote installed, you should uninstall it before installing the new version.

  1. Open the EndNote program.
  2. Click on the EndNote menu and select the Customizer.
  3. Click the Uninstall option at the bottom of this menu. When this is complete, it will remove all external components.
  4. Click Quit.
  5. Drag the EndNote folder from the Applications folder to the Trash.
  6. Empty the Trash.

This will uninstall EndNote completely from your computer.
